I have been working in pinks and creating a pink progression of art quilts in the last week. They are each 25 x 30 cm.
The first was a Wave Landscape Patchwork quilted piece.

When I sew remnants, piles of differing sizes are always created.
Really small snippets, which I used to use to stuff pillows and dolls.

longer, thinner fabric strips which are normally formed when I rip sheets and shirts. They are too narrow to use as strips when sewing but I have found many other uses for them. From creating embellishments to using them in fabric necklaces.

None of them are thrown away. They are materials for the next quilt .
The spool of pink thread that I found is for an industrial sewing machine. There is nowhere to place a spool of that size on a domestic machine.
So what I do is place it in a mug to prevent it from rolling around and then I thread the machine in the usual manner.

Now that I have donated fabrics and downsized I must use what I have smartly and not throw usable fabric away. I really squeeze every last drop, or thread, out of each fabric piece. Luckily I have created techniques which allow me to do that.
The next piece in the progression is a ScrapFabric art piece.
As I work I put scraps in designated bowls. These are the offcuts of the wave landscape patchwork piece.

and these are the threads accumulated as I work. I am quite suprised by the amount of thread which is discarded when sewing. I used to throw the snips away and decided to put them in a bowl just for fun to see how big the pile would get. Quite a lot of thread.
I am keeping them, in color coded piles of course, for use in hand sewing and embellishing.

I am always amazed when creating new fabric with scraps. This piece turned out really beautifully. This one will be used as an art piece.

and I had enough of the pink shaded scraps left over to create a second piece. I cannot just create art - it is a flaw that I have, I think it is my Polish genes :) I have to make something practical as well. So this piece will be for a zippered pouch.

This time when I sew the zippered pouch I will be using one folded outer piece and one folded inner piece to have less bulk from seams in the finished piece.

and the third art quilt is a Carnival Boho Fabric piece where I incorporate all the scraps in an embellished design.
