I continued working on my landscape today. In between phone calls and some logistical and computer work, I sewed.
I placed 2 small bowls for the scraps for some more projects right next to the sewing machine. I place the scraps in them according to color families. It saves time so that I don't have to sort them later.
These will become 2 more projects
I experimented with color and texture layouts
I sewed the pieces using the wave landscape patchwork technique as my scraps were shorter than the base fabric and I wanted to create an interestingly shaped piece.
I checked to see whether the threads that I had chosen with the children yesterday were still the colors that I wanted - and yes they were.
The colors were perfect!
I could have quilted the wave landscape piece but I wanted a more textured tactile piece so I went looking in my collection of textured and collaged patchwork strips.
Color placement and textures. I always create a few experimental layouts before making my final decision.
From scraps to waves to a textured tactile fabric landscape.
The textured layout.
I wanted to create my vision of a sand to sea to twilight sky of Israel and here it is .
What I normally do at this stage is to back and frame it with some fabric binding.
I want to keep this piece for myself so contrary to my usual technique . I think that I will add a black fabric frame which I will stretch over a wooden frame. It can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and a water spray.
The colored strings really take this to the next level. Love it. Just got your instructions. Thank you.
I love this, you are so inspiring, and I was attempting your 'wave' tutorial today and thinking of you.
