Whenever I work on a project and inevitably end up with piles of scraps I tend to expand my repertoire of techniques to find interesting ways to use up all of the small and strangely shaped pieces that I end up with.
This last month I have been working with grey fabrics.
I created a wave landscape slow stitch technique for hand sewing only. The first sample for the tutorial was in ocean colors and then a student asked for a grey piece.
I have been collecting grey fabrics in many shades for a while now as I have a grey shaded rag quilt in the works.
I went to the grey box and found all sorts of interesting pieces in many different shades and sizes.
The first piece that I created was a 25 x 30 cm Wave Landscape mini art quilt

Which of course left me with a pile of remnants which I then used to create this grey Carnival Boho Fabric piece

And then, with the remnants from that I created this ScrapFabric piece.

I was also left with many, very thin fabric strips which were created when I ripped the fabric to straighten it

What I would have done in the past was to cut the strips to add to the ScrapFabric pile or create fabric beads from them.
This time I have another idea. I have been experimenting with slow stitching techniques and I will be creating thread from these strips for handsewing.
I sorted the greys according to their different shades and created "spools" from a piece of cardboard for wrapping the threads for storage.

I now have a large selection of grey threads, follow to see what I plan to create with them.

I did create some grey fabric beads as well, how could I not :) as I really don't throw anything away.
