Sorting through my fabrics and finding all sorts of pieces that I have created in the past. I found a huge box with pieces created from denim scraps.
When I upcycle a pair of jeans it is broken down into different parts. Strips from the legs, pockets and the belt with the belt loops. From the strips I cut squares and keep the smaller strips that are left over in different sized piles for other projects.
I also keep the jean seams as they become focal points for textile art
The first pieces I created were classical quilts from 6 inch squares
And some matching denim square pillows
Pieces which are too small for squares are cut into rectangles and sewn into a patchwork piece of fabric, which can be used as is or to create a pillow or a bag.
Many diffferent shaded jeans rectangles sewn together to create a new piece of fabric.
Next, smaller squares and rectangles of different shades of jeans are sewn together to create a crumb patchwork jeans piece.
A work of art
A larger jeans crumb patchwork quilt
Crumb pieces are also used to sew home decor - patchwork pillows
A sofa cover and matching crumb patchwork pieces from different shaded denim jeans
The smaller strips that are left over are also used when I am in the mood for creating art from jeans. A wave landscape patchwork piece entirely from different shaded denim strips
A jeans wave landscape patchwork quilted table runner
And last but not least, all of the small pieces are used to sew a patchwork piece of jeans mosaic fabric.

The smallest of pieces can also be used to create fabric beads
Enough reasons to keep all of the denim pieces when deconstructing a pair of jeans
