Now that I am happy with the colors, I found most of what I wanted, I can begin the part of designing and color layout.
First I began by cutting all of the fabrics into 4 cm wide strips, ripping them - most of the fabrics were cotton and poly cotton and lent themselves well to ripping, its straighter than cutting I find.
Then I laid the fabric strips on top of each other and cut them into lengths of 20 - 25 cm and arranged them into a pile
I cut all of the strips to size and then began the color placement
A color progression from dark to light
I need some paler pinks and oranges for the center of the whirlpool
I see certain colors in my mind's eye and I won't purchase new fabrics until all of mine are finished, so I have to be creative.
These are the pink fabric scraps that I found in the spring season box and I will have to choose one from this selection.
I also found one fabric swatch of a pale tie dyed orange/salmon colored fabric piece.
It is perfect but I only have a small piece so I will have to be stingy when using it :)
I always create a layout of the fabric strips on a wooden board before I begin working. This way I get to see if the color progression works or not, and the board can easily be moved from side to side in the studio..
I think that the colors that I found are pretty close to what I drew.
Now to begin sewing.
