A Felted Sweater Jacket

Writer: Sharon PriganSharon Prigan

Last week I went for a walk in the neighbourhood and found a sweater that had beautiful metal buttons on it, and as I am an avid button collector I of course took the sweater thinking to reuse the buttons.

5 silver toned buttons

The sweater had been neatly folded and placed on the curbside as though waiting for someone who would appreciate it to take it.

When I got home I thought of removing the buttons and then washing and cutting the sweater up to repurpose for an upcycling project.

Before washing I looked at the label. 100% wool!!!! So hard to find these days. One of the few things that manage to keep me warm in the winter are my woollen sweaters and I treat each one reverently as I hope they will last me forever.

It is an x large and I am a small so I washed with a higher temperature hoping it would shrink and felt a bit. It did.

The felted sweaters are heavier and more dense and of course much warmer.

So now I have a felted sweater jacket which needed 7 black buttons.

So of course I went to the button boxes to search for 7 matching buttons

Which I found :)

Now to sew them on
