In the last summer sewing session the students created wave landscape pieces of 25 x 30 cm which became pockets for the backpacks that they sewed.
I have been sharing their pieces bit by bit. They have been noticed. I was asked last week to create 30 small textile art pieces for an exhibition of upcycled textile art. I will be given a wall and the pieces will be hung 6 x 5 on the wall.
I won't be sharing only my pieces, the students work will get pride of place as well.
For every piece that is created I have to share the fabric source, and the progress steps of the creation on social media.
The source is not a problem. I have an abundance of upcycled fabrics and I don't think that I will have to purchase anything for creating and teaching for at least the next 10 years.
The pastel scrap fabric box which I keep for the students was the first place where I went to choose fabrics.
What caught my eye was the large selection of pink fabrics
When I decide on a certain color when I look in the pile I am lucky to find a very large range of shades of that one color. That is not always the case, and then I have to be very creative, as I tell my students.
From almost white to salmon and ice cream pink - quilte a large selection
This is the pink fabric selection that I found in the pastel scrap box. First strips for the Wave Landscape piece. A monochromatic piece and a patterned piece.
There are actually enough strips to create 2 pieces. The first a monochromatic pink piece.
And for the second I added some of the patterned pieces that I found in the scrap mix.
This is the first piece that I will be working on this week. I will first create a Wave Landscape Patchwork piece and then using the remnants from that, create 2 more pieces, one a Carnival Boho Fabric piece and the second, a ScrapFabric piece.
Strips for the Carnival Boho Fabric piece.
and smaller pieces, to which the remnants from the wave piece will be added to create a ScrapFabric art quilt.
I also found a spool of the perfect color pink in my thread drawer for the quilting.
Now to create.
